Logo & Brand Colors: What to Gather (Or Not Worry About)

What you need to know about logos and colors before building your website — even if you don't have either.

Trainer Solutions ·

When we ask for your logo and brand colors, some barn owners panic. “I don’t have a logo!” or “I’ve never thought about brand colors!”

Relax. Many successful barns operate without a formal logo or color palette. Here’s what to gather — and what not to stress about.

Let’s start with the obvious question. Do you have a logo?

If yes:

  • Send us the file — ideally a PNG with a transparent background, or an SVG if you have one
  • If you only have it on a business card or flyer, that’s okay too — we can work with it
  • Send the highest quality version you have

If no:

  • That’s completely fine
  • Many barns use just their name in a nice font — no graphic needed
  • We can create a simple text-based logo as part of your site
  • If you want a real logo later, we can help you find a designer

Don’t let the lack of a logo hold you back. Your website can look great without one.

Step 2: Gather What You Already Have

Even if you don’t have “official” branding, you probably have materials with your barn’s name on them. Gather whatever you’ve got:

  • Business cards or flyers
  • Show banners or tent signs
  • Truck lettering or trailer graphics
  • Embroidered apparel — polos, jackets, saddle pads
  • Social media profile images
  • Old website — even if it’s outdated

Send us photos of these. Even if the designs are inconsistent, they give us a starting point and show us what you’ve been drawn to in the past.

Step 3: Think About Colors

Colors set the mood for your website. Before we meet, spend a few minutes thinking about what feels right.

Start with what you already use:

  • What color is your barn? Your fencing? Your truck?
  • What colors appear in your existing materials?
  • Do you have a signature color people associate with you?

Think about the feeling you want:

  • Classic & traditional — Navy, hunter green, burgundy, gold
  • Modern & clean — Black, white, subtle grays, a single accent color
  • Warm & welcoming — Earth tones, barn red, warm browns
  • Bold & energetic — Bright blues, teals, vibrant accent colors

Don’t overthink it. If you tell us “I like navy and I want it to feel classic,” that’s plenty to work with.

Step 4: What If You Have Nothing?

Starting from scratch? That’s actually an opportunity.

Here’s what we’ll do:

  • Create a simple text logo using your barn name in a font that fits your style
  • Suggest a color palette based on your facility, your discipline, and the feeling you want
  • Keep it flexible so you can evolve your brand over time

Some of the cleanest, most professional websites we’ve built are for barns that started with no logo and no colors. We’ll figure it out together.

Logo File Formats: A Quick Guide

Not sure what file to send? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • SVG — Best quality, scales perfectly. If you have this, send it.
  • PNG (transparent background) — Great for most uses. Look for files ending in .png
  • PNG or JPG (any background) — We can work with this, but a white or transparent background is easier.
  • PDF — Often contains high-quality graphics. Worth sending if you have it.

Don’t have any files? A clear photo of your logo on a sign, shirt, or business card works too. We can recreate it if needed.

Not Sure What Colors You Want?

Try this: Look at 3–5 websites you think look good (they don’t have to be horse-related). Send us the links. We’ll use them as inspiration for your color palette and overall style.

You can also just tell us:

  • “I want it to feel traditional and classic”
  • “I like clean and modern”
  • “Our barn is hunter/jumper, so something along those lines”

That’s enough for us to start.

Ready to Share What You Have?

Gather whatever materials you’ve got — logos, photos of signage, business cards, or just a list of colors you like. Send them over and we’ll take it from there.

If you’re starting from zero, don’t worry. Schedule a call and we’ll figure out your look together.
